Safety

HSE performance is a critical element of ISS’s operations and is the primary measure of our success. No job will be done if it cannot be done safely and our track record is indicative of this philosophy even while performing some of the more hazardous operations in the area of well intervention.  ISS has a solid, proven multi-level safety management system that includes written policies and procedures, safety supervision and required training along with demonstration of competency on the job and in the classroom.  The policies and procedures have been audited and approved by many of our clients or their representatives such as NCMS and fond to meet or exceed expectations in all areas resulting in the designation of ISS as a “preferred contractor”.

All ISS Personnel have taken ownership and are fully versed in the use of the ISS Hazard Management Tools in their daily work and these include: Hazard Hunts, JSEA’s, Hazard and Risk Assessments, Step Back 5 x 5, STOP observation program and Near Miss reporting. Identification and elimination of hazards along with managing our risk are key elements in the success enjoyed by ISS personnel.  Detailed incident investigation including “near miss” incidents and the completion of the Root Cause Analysis process on the aforementioned provided invaluable lesson learned which are shared with all divisions worldwide and all members of the Superior Energy family.

Full participation of all personnel is required in safety drills, safety meetings, rig inspections and reporting. Teams made up from all levels of operations are assigned the responsibility of reviewing and analyzing the results of the safety observation program.  Still other teams are charged with the responsibility of assisting with the RCA process and reviewing QC procedures and monitoring quality non-conformance issues.

The management team’s commitment remains strong and is evident in the form of scheduled and unscheduled management visits to the field to conduct HSE audits.  Members of the management team also participate in safety meeting, risk assessments, and the behavioral based safety observation program.  Immediate positive recognition in the form of incentives are handed out by managers on regular bases for outstanding performance by crews in HSE performance.

Employee retention and turnover rate of less than 5% is another key to the success of the safety management program at ISS.  The turnover rate is all the more impressive despite some of the more stringent entry requirements into the ISS family.  Once on board, employees enjoy the benefit of an open door policy where he/she can access any member of management or evoke Stop Work Authority at any time they feel conditions are not safe.

All equipment and processes are designed, constructed, and operated with safety in mind. ISS has developed a Critical Function Testing Program that ensures all equipment is tested and inspected at pre-determined intervals minimizing downtime and eliminating potential equipment related hazards. Since their inception, ISS and its affiliates have maintained an excellent safety record and are constantly improving upon their safety standards.
